Your hosts Rodeo and Juliet could not be more grateful this Thanksgiving to have multi-Grammy Award-winning artist Ricky Skaggs & Gordon Kennedy close out their Fall Music Series with highlights from the spirit-filled Grammy nominated project MOSAIC. When you hear the opening verses of these truly inspired songs, it's clear that Ricky is fine-tuning his music and shifting his sound slightly. Skaggs is singing about his Christian faith in strong yet delicate tones. But the tunes aren't rigorous bluegrass. Instead, he's trying out variations on pop melodies and he frequently sets his mandolin aside in "My Cup Runneth Over”, for example, for Peter Frampton who provides the guitar hook.

On MOSAIC, Skaggs has a new source of material…one that provides a different sensibility for this project. Every song was written or co-written by Grammy Songwriter of the Year Gordon Kennedy who is known best for writing Eric Clapton’s “Change The World”, but who's also written songs for Garth Brooks, Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss among tons of others. Working with Kennedy's material, Skaggs is singing beautiful melodies and the Christian imagery of the lyrics and the surging vocals results in music that is both vivid and thoughtful. Skaggs has said in a couple of interviews that he hears Kennedy's songs and their mutual arrangements of them as having "a Beatles feel." The songs frequently capture the artistic paradox of good gospel music: expressing humble piety through bold, passionate performances. If the Gordon Kennedy songs that fill out MOSAIC have given Ricky Skaggs a fresh sound, Kennedy's tunes certainly benefit from being performed by Skaggs. The pieces don't just fit together on MOSAIC — they lock into place with a firmness, an inevitability, that sounds as though chance or faith or fate had nothing to do with it. Purely inspired art, sent from heaven.

…And a little bird has said you may get a preview of a song or two from...MOSAIC 2… Bring your family and friends for this very special pre-Thanksgiving Concert.
