Not uncommon, but not well-known, neurofibromatosis (NF) is a progressive genetic disorder that occurs in 1 in 3,000 births - it is more prevalent than cystic fibrosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and Huntington’s disease combined. NF causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body, and can lead to deafness, blindness, disfigurement, bone abnormalities, learning disabilities, disabling pain, and cancer. NF has been classified into three distinct types: NF1, NF2 and schwannomatosis. NF occurs in all populations equally, and there is not yet a cure.

The Children’s Tumor Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of the more than 2.5 million people worldwide who live with NF. The Foundation is the largest non-government funding source for NF research, and this research is shedding new light on cancer, brain tumors, learning disabilities, and bone abnormalities, which will ultimately benefit the broader community.
