David Ian is a Jazz pianist born in Toronto, Canada, critically known for his classy Christmas piano trio recordings of remarkably authentic vintage feel.
When he conceived the idea of recording his first album “Vintage Christmas”, he drew inspiration from two legendary jazz pianists. “I tried to capture some of the essence of the gorgeous voicing and phrasing of Bill Evans in his interpretations of ballads, as well as the festive approach of Vince Guaraldi,” says Ian.
After four “Vintage Christmas” album releases spanning over a decade, “The David Ian Vintage Christmas Experience” is the name the pianist has given the live concert of his original arrangements from this collection of well known Christmas favorites. Sweetly playful and sophisticated, David lan and his ensemble present a refined night of jazz with themes pointing to the historic Christmas narrative. “I believe the meaning of Christmas to be one of hope in someone greater than ourselves; in the birth of a Savior who ensures that the world need not bear its burdens alone. My objective with these arrangements is to create an atmosphere that directs the listener to that sense of hope” says Ian.
